bloomies and the zoester

September 18, 2009

balk all you want, but i live for the zoe report. not only do i just love her personal style, causing me to love most things she features, but each of her reports have this amazing “alternate universe” section, where she’s features a cheaper like-minded version of whatever high fashion gloriousness she’s exalting. and what i really love, is that the alternate items she features are actually affordable. i’ve been thinking about how i need to go buy another crop of tights, as i live in tights from fall to spring, and kate and i have been on a voracious search for two-toned chanel knocks for quite a while. and, i mean, when you’re knocking chanel, not just any old thing will do. so, rachel zoe, reading my mind as always, sends out a zoe report today about these sensational gaultier two-toned fishnets…for $135. and then, because she’s a blessed, blessed being, she conjured her alternate universe from my immediate universe and featured a pair of these babies:

TWO-TONED TRINA TURK FOR HUE TIGHTS. i mean, you just get right on out of here. yes yes yes, the front panel is not the fleshy opaque of the chanel version, but it’s also not the glaring white of all the terrible knock-offs. i immediately texted kate, she immediately implored that i pick her up some too, and there you go. i’m so happy.

A Few of My Favorite Blings

September 9, 2009

Having discussed basics and brought up footwear, we can’t leave behind my fave things to shop for, statement pieces! Just a few key trend pieces each season can get a ton of mileage. This year the trends harken back to a Joan Jett meets Debby Harry in tough glam sort of fashion. The above Alexis Bittar Extra Large Cushion Ring has a picasso-esque edge to it that I adore.

I live and die in bangles. I as many as I can, stacked, almost everyday. I love these studded Ralph Lauren stackers, together or with other bangles, they achieve that Marc Jacobs for Louis Vuitton Fall ’09 look we love so well.

Biker Jackets are key this fall and I just want to exist in Balmain. Sexy biker chic over some sequins. D.I.E.

Sequins are the tits this autumn. This Matthew Williamson sequined t-shirt dress would be enough to die for with the Balmain Coat and some A-maze high heels.

Obvi, I die for this Chanel braided chain necklace. I mean I’m melting to the floor. This with pearls is too much to handle and Avelle, the new Bag, Borrow, Steal, is faboosh. They will send this glorious gem to your home free of charge at the rental price of just $64/week!

The Kate Spade Sherwood-Ida bag is too kitsch for me to pass up. A retro 1970’s owl man would be slammin with some bell bottoms, clod-hopping wedges, and a drapey, open front cardi. Yes please!

chanel, my belle

July 8, 2009

what i really love about karl lagerfeld as a designer is that he creates these massive collections that evolve visually as they travel down the runway. for couture fall 2009, he starts with the foundation of the quintessential chanel tweed suit, accentuated by couture construction and accoutrement, and then he travels from day to evening, his pieces becoming more elaborate as the show goes on, with the addition of trains and beading and draping and gloves, each piece becoming increasingly ornate.

the idea i laid out yesterday of creating an outside story based on an entire collection is something i feel karl already does. there’s a distinct evolution to his collections, and he produces such vast amounts of clothing that there’s room for the story to develop strongly and intricately. there’s an incredible method to his madness.

i will say, though, i do not like the cut of the skirts comprising the first quarter of this collection. i feel like the length of the skirt in conjunction with the height of the booties make the model’s legs look stubby, by accentuating the largest part of the calf. yes, fine, they’re models and they’re inordinately thin regardless, but no matter what size you are, you still don’t want the largest part of anything on your body being framed solo. other than that, it’s all exquisite, of course.

ardent hypocrisy / resort part deux

June 26, 2009

i’m a terrible shit of hypocrite. luckily this is my blog, and i can do what i want.

i have been perusing, daily, my veritable scroll of fashion blogs, looking for something that is inspiring…and not that there isn’t a wealth of brilliance being parlayed to and fro in the blogging world right now, i’m just tired of searching for something to inspire me. i was thinking about this yesterday evening (pre-yslgasm) and was a little weirded out by, not my lack of interest in blogging, because i adore blogging and sassafras wholeheartedly, but by my complete and utter inability to be inspired by what i was finding. or not finding, rather. i then realized, i’d been searching so hard to see what everyone else was posting, which images were floating around, that i’d made an egregious lapse in keeping up with the foundation of it all. recently, i’ve not been reading my magazines much, and had hardly perused the resort collections…i had been keeping up with cheeky trends and quick fix info, but not with what i really fell in love with in the first place. the designers, their 3 collection/year perpetuation of fashion, my magazines, the grandeur of the industry. once i made that realization and went back to the basics, i breathed a sigh of relief, and instantly felt revitalized…it was exactly what i had been looking for.

this entire existential rant is part explanation, part apology for reneging on what i so aggressively stated in my previous post i would not do: post resort. i shan’t go crazy…just a few of my favorite looks. despite this post’s every parallel to the cliche fashion blogger, i do hope you enjoy.

mama’s going back to the basics today. it is, after all, always important to remember where you came from.

sonia rykiel: ohmygod. if anything says summer…it’s this collection. abso-freaking-lutely adorable, and it was incredibly difficult to only post 4 looks. you must check out the entire collection immediately. the shoes are unbelievable, and i LOVE the colors and respective color combinations. so much slouch, and so totally everything i’d want to live in all summer song.

chanel: i absolutely ADORE karl lagerfeld’s annual approach to resort. he always chooses (or fabricates) an unbelievable location which instantly evokes travel and summer and all things resort-like. and i mean, he created 78 looks…seriously? those boots, the jewels, the 20s inspired hair-dos, the sun glasses on a stick…he makes resort so much fun, and it should be. summer inspires fun, once-a-year type activities more than any other season. we should all be dressed just as joyfully.

marc jacobs: i love his marriage of ethnic prints and proportions with the schmaltz of ’80s gold and prints. there’s so much character and humor infused into this collection. and those shoes…a big old wedge kills me everytime.

**edit: i’m getting such a kick out of this, a third post will follow. i am thinking of you guys here…at least i’m trying to break up the madness that is my mind right now.
